Culford School

Culford School

English Today is situated within the grounds of Culford School, which is an independent mixed boarding and day school for around 700 children, ranging from babies in the Nursery to 18 year olds in 6th Form. The school is set in 480 acres of land with an 18th century mansion in the middle. Academically it has an ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted rating which is the highest rating achievable. The school facilities are excellent and the £4 million worth of facilities include:

  • 4 Court Indoor Tennis Centre
  • 7 Outdoor Tennis Courts
  • An Indoor Sports Hall
  • 2 Astroturf Pitches
  • An Indoor Climbing Wall
  • 25×13 Meter Indoor Swimming Pool

English Today has access to all of these facilities during our sports sessions.

In addition, there are numerous outside sports fields plus gardens, woodland, play areas, some farmland and a lake; all within a perimeter fence.

The educational buildings house:

  • A library
  • 2 theatres
  • An art centre
  • An exceptional school dining hall
  • Paddy & Scotts Cafe for Students, Staff and Visitors
  • And much more besides

Whilst English Today does not have unlimited access to all of these, we negotiate within the main school priorities to use them as necessary.

ET’s Relationship with Culford School

History

When John Endean was looking for a suitable independent school for him to base his new English language school, he searched all over southern England for a suitable location.  When, in 2015, he visited Culford School, he was immediately convinced that it was the perfect location.  In turn, Culford School were forward looking and keen to make good use of a building which was being vacated.  The instant synergy between the leaders of both organisations quickly built into a strong and cooperative working relationship, which has existed ever since.

Facilities

Culford School provides all facilities, including accommodation, classrooms, maintenance, cleaning IT and energy resources.  English Today is an independent English company, within the Culford School premises, which pays a fee for the services rendered.

Catering

Every meal is served in Ashby Dining Hall alongside Culford School students. The food is of a very high standard.  The excellent in-house caterers, Edwards and Blake, cater for all needs in regard to allergies, vegetarianism and specific dietary requirements. Every student has the option to eat a hot meal or go to the salad bar where they can have a jacket potato or soup with their salad. The majority of the produce is sourced in Suffolk and the caterer’s aim is to distribute healthy and nutritious food that has been freshly cooked in the kitchens. We actively encourage our students to make a healthy balanced choice when choosing their food.
