Facilities – Eastfield House
Eastfields House is the headquarters of English Today. Here we have offices, classrooms, accommodation and relaxation facilities. Whilst this complex is exclusively for use by English Today, we also have use of all the other facilities of Culford School. There are three areas within the Eastfields House complex: The classrooms, the sleeping area and “the Garden”.
Wifi is available throughout the building, and parental controls are built in to the network. Approved adaptors are available to convert International and European style electric plugs to UK 3-pin mains sockets; so please do not bring your own.
|There are two sizeable classrooms, both equipped with interactive smart-boards and whiteboards. The smaller classroom can accommodate up to 16 students and the larger one can comfortably seat up to 18 students, but we rarely have more than 15 in each class. If the group is larger, we use an additional classroom within Culford School. The classrooms are available for relaxation when not being used for formal lessons. The larger room has a piano and can be arranged for games.|
|The sleeping area is divided into two parts: a girls’ floor upstairs and a boys’ floor downstairs. The floors
have their own bathrooms and the dormitories are named after famous English authors.
Ground floor rooms (for boys):
Dickens (named after Charles Dickens, author of A Christmas Carol and Oliver Twist)
|First floor rooms:
Blyton (named after Enid Blyton, author of the Famous Five se
Each of the 6 rooms contains plenty of storage space for each student, and a bunkbed to call their own. Our plug sockets are supplied with USB hubs as well as EU-UK plug adaptors.
On both of the two floors, there are newly refurbished shower rooms with individual shower cubicles, sinks, mirrors, and toilets.
|We can accommodate up to 4 visiting teachers at any one time. One single room is located next to a classroom and it has en-suite facilities. The second room can sleep 2 teachers, it is located upstairs on the girls floor and again it has its own bathroom. The final single room is next to Carroll dormitory, but it does not have its own adjoining facilities.|
|When formal classes are over, our classrooms become relaxation areas, which open onto our private garden. Here we have facilities for various sports and games, table-tennis, piano, a “tuck-shop”, barbecues, cream teas, drama sessions, or just plain “chilling out”. The back gate, from the garden, leads directly onto sports fields, astro-turf courts and the great Culford Estate.
If students want to explore afield, they must stay within the estate , sign-out of our complex, go in groups, forecast when they will return and tell a member of staff or teacher. Within those guidelines, they can go for lovely walks, play sports, use some of the great facilities, like tennis courts, other sports facilities within safety and access rules, the library or the coffee bar.
